WATERPROOFING TIPS
Handy Waterproofing Tips, compliments of Flash Harry
- Always read ALL the instructions. If in doubt phone the manufacturer before undertaking a specific application
- Ensure that you have selected the correct product for your application.
- Correct surface preparation and priming is essential for best results.
- Do not attempt a waterproofing job if rain is imminent.
- Ensure to apply the product at the specified application rate.
- When using a membrane system, such as Liquid Plastic or One Shot, full saturation from underneath the membrane is the key to success.
- The 1st coat of waterproofing compound must be liberally applied and still be wet, in order to saturate a membrane effectively.
- Over applying waterproofing compound on top of the membrane does not give proper results
- Do not attempt to waterproof over cracks and gaps, use a suitable filler to create a base before waterproofing.
- Avoid waterproofing into 90o corners; use a suitable filler to create a 45o fillet.
- In ponding applications (water features and fish ponds) surface preparation and priming with Hypercrete Primer is crucial.
- In ponding applications leaks normally occur were there is any form of detailing (inlet pipes, corners, drains or joints between plaster and rock) be sure to pay special attention to these areas.
- In ponding applications take care to ensure compatibility when applying a waterproofing compound over an existing unknown product.
- In ponding applications, seven rain free days are required for curing, before water is re-introduced.
